Prarambhika

‘Prarambhika’ is the first level. The aim of this course is to acquaint the student with the basics of Indian classical music. Thus, concepts like swara, raga and taal are introduced here, and the student is expected to learn some basic rags. It is only when these concepts are strong that the learner can take his/her next steps confidently.

1. Introduction To The Notation System & Instrument.

Learning information about the instrument and producing sound. Introduction to Pandit Bhatkhande and Pandit Paluskar notation system, reading the notations, musical symbols, scale, octave to be familiar with the complete notation system.

2. Learninng Swara and Alankar.

Understanding seven shuddha swara & different alankar with taal. Understanding komal through tivra swara.

3. Introduction To Laya & Taal.

Introduction to laya and it’s types. Practicing laya with metronome. Understanding different taal and related information such as taal dadra, rupak, keherva, zaptaal, teentaal, etc.

4. Learning Basic Ragas.

Introduction of some Ragas such as Bhoop, Bageshree, Bhimapalasi, Durga, Khamaj, Kafi, Aroh-Avaroh, Pakad, SaragamGeet along with Bandish/Chota Khyal with notations and taal.

5. Learning & Exercising Swara.

Focusing on musical notes by identification of swara, Exercising along with improving instrument sound clarity & sound projection.

6. Learning Laxangeet.

Introduction to Laxangeets. Preparation of two different laxangeet in these four raga – Bhoop, Des, Kafi, Bhimapalasi. Focus on laxangeet using taal.

7. National Songs.

Preparing for Indian National Anthem & Indian National Song with the gained knowledge.

8. The Art of Listening.

Understanding the subtle art of listening to focus on important aspects Swara, Swara Alankar, Raga, Saragam Geet, Bandish/Chota Khyal, different recordings.

9. Practice Session / Exam Preparation.

Moving further with Musical Excercises, Practice, Identification of Taal, Sessions with live players. Exam Preparartion.

10. Theory – Definitions.

Concluding with theoretical knowledge of Sangeet, Raga, Thaat, Vadi-Samvadi, Laya, Taal, Aroh-Awaroh, Pakad etc.
