As vibrant as the Indian states and its culture are the dance forms in India. Each dance form is equally influenced by the state, its culture and tradition. The classical dance and music in India originated in the Vedic period. There are eight forms of Indian classical dance which evolved as a result of various religious activities. The Puranas and other literatures support the fact that dances had a significant role in the past. As per the book written about the ancient dance forms known as the NatyaShastra by Bharat Muni, dance and music are intricately connected with each other. Three facets for dance are known as the natya, nritya and nritta. Every dance form has to knit all the three aspects and perform. Kathak is one amongst the eight classical dance forms in India. Kathak, the word itself means storytelling; it is the dance form in which the artist tells the story through song, music along with movements of hands and facial expressions. This dance form is originally created to tell mythological stories in temples, in the Northern states of India. During the 18th century kathak was practiced in the courts of Mugal emperors and rulers. It was during this time that Kathak imbibed Persian and Arabian cultures and became more sophisticated and complex. It is the only dance form which has incorporated the values and traditions of both Hindu and Muslim cultures and also uses Urdu poetry and verses in the performances.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Bharatnatyam is one of the ancient and a popular classical dance forms in India. It has a divine origin and is specifically known for its purity and chastity. As per the legend this dance form was depicted by Brahma on the request of Devas to create a Veda that can be understood by common man. It is believed that this fifth Veda created by Brahma was propagated through Bharat Muni, who wrote the bible of classical dances known as \u2018Natyashastra\u2019. As per Natyashastra, this dance form combines the three Natya, Nirtta and Nritya. The dance form includes graceful and tender movements of the body in an artistic and elegant way. This is closely associated with the region and religion; hence its origin can be traced back to Tamil Nadu and mainly performed in temples.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Bollywood dance is the name given to the dance-form used in Indian (Hindi) films. The most energetic and colorful Indian dance forms are Bhangra and Garba (originated in the state of Gujarat, India). They merged with other dance forms from around the world, and now is the famous Bollywood dance. Bollywood Dance style is a fusion of various dance styles.
